Recently, in Western Civilization to 1964 we had to write an essay on what we thought was an important Greek value. Let me tell you... the book we had to read was poorly written and organized by hurricane winds of chance. I was really dreading this essay for a couple reasons. First, the book wasn't entertaining enough for me to retain much information. Second, names were used (well it is history!) but without linking them to any emotion. People would be brought up and dropped within the same sentence and it was pretty difficult to keep hold of who was Greek, who was Persian, and who was just there. I boiled down my silver and finally wrote the paper... finished right before class and didn't have time to review it. Shame on me for waiting till the last minute, but, all-in-all the paper turned out pretty well. What is a value about yourself that you think is significant and would other people agree with your statement? It got me thinking about my own values! What are they? Who are they? Am I one? Is there any single value I can see inside myself that shines brighter than the rest, my supernova of ideals! As the blood boiled my brain and ran into my the stem of my neck, I realized its harder to think of your own values than it is to judge others; it comes down to perspective. Perfect example is the Romans Vs. Jews. Many people see it as a religious warfare, but, in all actually it was only religious warfare to the Jews. The Romans saw a group, our idea of a modern cult, causing disturbance in their society. It was preemptive to stop chaos. Ironic much!?! Something simple as drinking the blood of Christ and eating the body of Christ was related to the Romans as cannibalism! From wanting to know what values I think are significant to me, I decided to take a different approach. What values do I want to be significant to me? A much better question to ask yourself with a very simple plan-of-action to set up! Perfect! So this is where I am at. What values do I want shape my supernova ideal? Honesty is a big one, but, I believe I have that covered. I think, in all actuality, I will work on happiness. I cannot say I have been a very happy person for a while now. Recognize. Resituate. Revitalize! |
