Brett Hartel Blog: The Day After
09/12/11
Start today fresh! Yesterday could be considered the most feared date in the USA, but, it has passed without any catastrophic destruction; we still live. Before the tragedy of 9/11, I knew nothing of the Twin Towers, nor did millions of other Americans, and now it is burrowed deep in the minds of many. What is the importance of remembering the "attack of 9/11”"? With so much information available to the masses, the idea that we were/are a helpless nation under attack, a total surprise to our frivolous government, not only demeans us as citizens, but, shows the naïve traits we allow to exist.
There is a whole new generation, born after the fact, who’s spring eyes watched as people jumped from skyscrapers and landed on windshields. I had a man tell me he was unable to sleep because visions of such things keep replaying in his mind after watching the ‘tributes’ on television. We allow ourselves to be persuaded by a ridiculous notion to let such media can be played because its ‘patriotic’ and became blindsided to its actual effects. Where, where, where is the idea of ‘leaving the next generation with a better world’? So far we are leaving a debt reaching high into the cosmos, war, and video of people in the action of death!
It all comes down to the importance of logic coexisting with morals. If you don’t want to leave a legacy of war then don’t immortalize it. It wouldn’t be so horrible if we couldleave more behind than just 9/11, as I feel it’s the most prominent topic of our time; at least the 60’s had space travel and moon landings! Where is the amazing discoveries we should be making. We need to start a plan to terraform Mars.
I’m going to start being more aware what I am leaving people in a sense of attributes to them. When I die will I be just another ‘good person’ with a tombstone? Looking at what we are doing now and what we want to be remembered for, are our actions sufficient or are we lacking conviction? I know for myself, I need to step up my game in this department of life. I want an existence filled with thought and meaning!
